Sinulog Festival 2019
happens in Cebu City, Philippines every 3rd Sunday of January, and this year, on the 20th. The festival is both religious and cultural in honor of the Holy Child Jesus or the Santo Niño.
The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu
housed the original Santo Niño brought by Ferdinand Magellan when he came to Cebu on April 7, 1521. It used to be the San Agustin Church built by the Augustinian friars who came with Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in his expedition 44 years after Ferdinand Magellan came. There will be Holy Masses at the Basilica from morning to evening. Devotees can choose what time to visit depending on their convenient time. Security around the Basilica is so much tighter than any other time of the year when visitors, tourists and devotees alike flock by the thousands every single day.
The schedule of activities during Sinulog is listed below:
For Catholic devotees in Cebu and the rest of the Philippines,
this is a great time to pay homage to the Santo Niño or the Holy Child Jesus because it is in His honor that this grand and festive event comes to life every year.
