Palm Sunday 2016
is on the 20th of March and is the beginning of the Holy Week. It commemorates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem as he rode on a donkey where the people scattered palm branches in front of Him praising God and singing the hymn "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. See more images below.
Devotees bring palm branches
bought around the churches or made by them at home to be blessed with the Holy Water after the Holy Mass. And once blessed, devotees bring these palm branches home to be placed on or beside altars, or to be hung on doors and windows believing that blessings will abound around the house and on those living in it. They are even believed to ward off evil spirits, and eliminate misfortunes and bad luck. But the Catholic Church always reminds that these branches are meant to show that we welcome Jesus Christ into our homes and into our hearts.
