In general, if a person is not knowledgable or intelligent enough, his opinion is likely not that acceptable or favored as that coming from intelligent and knowledgable ones. The more he knows, the more he understands and the more his opinions become acceptable or favored or are more practical, useful and beneficial. Opinions are also readily preferred from someone with wide experience. Experience offers great lessons and learning making one wiser than ever before. And the wiser he is, the wiser his opinions become. That's why when it comes to kids' opinions, their weight matters little or not at all. Kids are still very young, inexperienced and generally carefree and playful. They don't understand much about everything going on around them that's why they can't form credible opinions that adults should listen to for their observations are still childish. And when they do, they still lack the knowledge and experience to support unless the kid is gifted and has intelligence far beyond normal. Almost in all cases, kids speak what they see and what they see is what they all get and nothing more. But for adults, what they see is not necessarily what they get. They see far beyond the thing and opinions branch out more and longer and are more critical and more thought out.
