Never Miss An Opportunity To Help The Poor

Poor people are always found everywhere
whether in the city, town or country.
Most have no stable source of living
​and just beg around when opportunity comes.

This family sleeps in a busy skywalk obviously with nowhere else to settle. The kids are most vulnerable.

​In poverty not because they're lazy
but because they were born
​to poor families
who own no houses or any properties,
who never went to school,
who couldn't find a permanent job.
It's not their fault to be poor
and being poor is never a sin. 
That's why you have no right
to insult them
or mistreat them in any way
​especially when they do no harm.

These guys frequent the port area not to fish but to ask for some coins from ship passengers passing by the area. They are skillful swimmers and could easily catch or dive for the coins thrown overboard.

If someday somewhere
one of them approaches you and ask,
don't hesitate, don't refuse.
Give something
​and never leave him empty handed.
Even if you have a little,
you can always share a little something
than not share at all.
Giving to the poor pleases the Holy One
​and washes away your sins.

A flower vendor slept on the sidewalk in the open air with no pillows or blankets with just newspapers for bed. Vendors like him would be already content earning a hundred pesos or two a day, or even less.

Begging may annoy you
but beggars can't force you to give
if you choose not to
but never get to the point of telling them
to "go away and find a job"
or "you're strong enough for any work,
so go ahead and apply".
Such words are oftentimes heard
but they degrade and humiliate much.
It's not ideal and it's not right.
Remember that when you have something,
​it's your duty to give away
​a part to the poor
because God wants it that way -
​it's loving your fellowmen.

This little guy just woke up after sleeping beside a stall in the marketplace.

Help your fellow now
and someday you will be helped too
when you need one.
That's how karma works -
what you do to others
​be done to you someday.
Don't be too proud about your riches
that you lose the heart to share it,
or you might wake up the next day
​poor and in debt
as if a furious storm passed you by
​and left you in ruins.
