the time of the year here in the Philippines 
to remind ourselves of fire safety and prevention

Especially these days that El Niño is here already, 
this weather phenomenon is drying our homes faster 
making them more susceptible to fires. 
El Niño is bringing low to no rain 
and causing lower to critical water level in our reservoirs such as dams 
and causing disruptions in the water supply, 
making our problem with fires worse.

31-year old Travis Kauffman from Colorado
was attacked by a mountain lion on Feb. 4, 2019 
​when  he was trail running at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. 
The animal followed him from behind 
but fortunately he was able to face it before it lunged at him 
and then his brave and courageous story began.

Miracles like this one should be told everywhere 
that God protects and saves those who deserve 
like this 4-year old child named Precious. 
Their house caught on fire 
possibly because of a candle left burning unattended. 
It took about an hour to put out the fire 
and firefighters then looked for her for 4 hours 
but couldn't find her. 
And everybody thought the child was also charred.

Firetrucks decorated with Christmas lights 
paraded around Cebu City, Philippines 
on December 15, 2018 
to the amazement of the onlookers in various parts of the city. 
Firetrucks became very bright and colorful 
and truly a feast for everyone's senses. 

Catholics here in the Philippines 
are once again preparing for Misa de Gallo 2018 
or the early morning Holy Masses for nine consecutive days 
beginning on December 16 and ending on December 24. 

Devotees joined the solemn procession 
on the eve of December 11, 2018 
along V. Rama avenue, Cebu City 
where Joseph, the Holy Child Jesus and the Virgin Mary 
were paraded from and to the Guadalupe Church. 
Devotees along the route lighted their candles 
in front of their houses or stores 
to celebrate the event 
with some even preparing fireworks. 
On the following day December 12, 
the Blessed Virgin Mary was again paraded 
but this time, just around the Guadalupe Church. 
Any visitor could tell how religious and devoted
Cebuanos are to Catholicism 
by witnessing thousands of devotees 
who traversed long roads and huge crowds 
during solemn processions. 

There was an unexpected sight 
during The Solemnity Of Christ The King 2018 
Holy Mass in Fuente Osmeña. 
A motorcycle with two men hit a taxi
when it turned right to Osmeña Boulevard  
 instantly throwing them out to the ground. 
Fortunately, 
an ambulance prepared for the Christ The King event 
was parked just a few meters from the accident 
and the victims were attended to right away. 
I don't know how they're doing after that.
