Every year,
TIME chooses the most influential person, group, idea or object.
This year's chosen one
is the Silence Breakers, the one behind the #MeToo campaign that represents the men and women who have spoken out about sexual abuse, assault and harassment anywhere. And the most talked about sexual harassment case is against Hollywood Film Producer Harvey Weinstein. Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd and others have spoken out about their experiences with him. A number of male celebrities too who have come out and shared their stories.
Sexual abuse, sexual harassment
and sexual assault are not new, and are happening anywhere in the world. In the workplace, there are so many stories regarding advances made by superior people against their subordinates with the latter giving in so they can retain their jobs and secure their future. They always think those things will just pass by without anyone knowing it and so spare them of embarrassment. But many others, like those Hollywood celebrities, have chosen to tell their stories to the whole world to hopefully end these awful happenings. The courage to speak out and the strength to spread the message using the #MeToo campaign deserve to be TIME's "Person Of The Year" for the year 2017.
